Deakin University in Victoria, Australia is a publicly funded university established in 1974. It offers Bachelor's, Master's and Doctoral programmes, professional training and industrial staff training to more than 70,000 students in degree and non-degree programmes, including 20,000 students in professional training.

Deakin has been ranked by the Council of Australian Governments as one of Australia's leading universities in terms of the quality of its tertiary education in recognition of its ongoing excellence in tertiary education in Australia. In addition, Deakin is a leader in vocational education in Australia and has a long history of working closely with industry, government and professional associations. -Deakin University has 21 research centres with an increasing number of research projects. Its research funding has tripled since 1998, making it one of the fastest growing research organisations in Australia, and in 2001 it had the highest rate of growth in research income of any university in Australia.

-Deakin's library is of the highest standard, with collections above the university average. For students living on campus, it's easy to borrow books and exchange photocopies across campus.

Deakin provides free toolkit computer software, and students receive a CD-ROM called the Deakin Learning Toolkit, which contains software, information and support courses, as well as the necessary links to communicate with university teachers online.

The computer lab is open 24 hours a day.
